Students will learn the basics of traditional rug hooking.  They will learn how to cut their fabric into strips, and how to pull (hook) the strips through a linen backing, while following a design that is drawn on the linen.

They will be taught how to look at a pattern to determine where to start working on it, and how to begin and end their strip.  Examples of straight line, contour and echo hooking will be shown and their different effects will be discussed.  Tips on color theory and its application for rug hooking, ways to change a pattern to personalize it, and how to select wool fabrics that will hook up well (stash building) will be included.
